An access log is a text file containing a thorough report on all of the files accessed by your website visitors. All of the files which were requested in one way or another will be included, so if you have a PHP script application and a visitor opens just the home page, for instance, you might find a lot of files in the log. This is because there are elements on the home page which are embedded - parts of other Internet pages, graphics, and so forth. All of these files will be listed in the access log, so that you can get a full picture of the way your site works. The data is in plain text format, so the logs are frequently referred to as "raw data" as well. An access log shows the name of each requested file, the path to it, the date it was accessed, and also the user’s IP address, world-wide web browser and Operating System. Additional information, including the referrer website, is usually provided too. A log file may be processed by various desktop programs for statistical purposes as an addition to the web stats provided by your hosting server.

Access Log Manager in Cloud Website Hosting

Our custom-built Hepsia Control Panel has a section dedicated to various logs and the access logs are one of them. As you sign in to your cloud website hosting account and visit this section, you shall find a list of all the domains and subdomains you have. All it takes to enable the generation of access logs is to press a button that will be available next to every domain/subdomain. When the option is active, you will see a download link along with the file size so far, so you shall be able to save the file to your laptop or computer and examine it or process it with some program. Enabling or disabling the logs becomes effective instantaneously, so if you no longer need one, you may stop it with just a mouse click from the same exact section of the Control Panel. You will still have the ability to access the already generated content by simply clicking on the Download link.

Access Log Manager in Semi-dedicated Hosting

If you have a semi-dedicated server account with our company, it won't take more than a couple of clicks to activate the generation of access logs by our system if you need them. The feature can be enabled through the Hepsia hosting Control Panel and this can be done separately for every single domain or subdomain that you have inside your account. After you log in and look at the Access/Error Logs section of the CP, you'll discover a list of all the hostnames with an On/Off button next to every one of them. A single click shall trigger the log generation and another one shall deactivate it, so you can control this function with great ease. A Download link inside the same section will permit you to save the compiled content as a text file, that you could then use on your computer. Even if the logs are deactivated, you'll still be able to download the data that has been previously generated.
